Why Do I Need a Dental Crown?
As a South Calgary Dentist, we offer a large array of general dental services including dental crown procedures.
A crown (also known as a cap) is a prosthesis placed over a tooth that restores its shape and appearance. Dental Crowns may be required when a tooth requires a filling that will exceed the natural tooth structure. Your teeth may also have extensive damage, including decay or fracture lines that require the placement of a crown.
Additionally, your teeth may have become discolored, or your teeth may have become brittle after a root canal therapy treatment. Since these teeth may be more susceptible to fracture, a dental crown may be an ideal option.
The Dental Crown Procedure
When we fit you for your new dental crown, it is typically a two-step procedure. Your first visit will be to prepare and shape your tooth to allow room for the crown. The 2nd visit will be after your new crown has been fabricated and is ready to install.
What is a Dental Bridge?
Dental Bridges are also placed over an existing tooth or dental implant. Quite simply they consist of one or more replacement teeth that are then attached to the natural teeth next to them. A Dental Bridge can replace single or multiple missing teeth and make chewing easier, improve your appearance, as well as allow you to keep your teeth, gums and jaw health.
The Dental Bridge Procedure
It typically takes two or more visits to prepare and fit your dental bridge. Your first visit will be to assess and prepare the surrounding and opposing teeth, as well as take any impressions required to create your new bridge. While your new bridge is being fabricated, you will typically have a temporary bridge placed to protect the prepared teeth.
At your next visit, the temporary bridge will be removed, and Dr. Tran will place your new fixed bridge onto your prepared teeth. After adjusting the bridge and checking your bite, it will then be cemented into place. If you bridge requires further adjustments, follow up visits may be required.

Dental bridges are replacement teeth (or a single tooth) which is placed over existing teeth or dental implants and attached to the natural teeth next to them. Dental bridges fill in gaps left by missing teeth so you can chew food more easily and make your mouth look better. They also help keep your teeth, gums and jaw in good health.
Fitting a dental crown is typically a two visit process, although sometimes further visits are needed.
1st VISIT: Dr Tran will assess the work required and the surrounding and opposing teeth. Impressions will be taken to ensure the bridge that’s created for you fits your mouth. A temporary bridge may be used to protect your teeth while you wait for your actual bridge to be made.
