Why Do Wisdom Teeth Need to Be Extracted?
Since your wisdom teeth are typically the last teeth to develop in your mouth, there is sometimes not enough room to accommodate the wisdom teeth which can impede their ability to erupt properly into the mouth.
Wisdom teeth are known as the four third molars located in the back of the mouth. They’re generally removed around the ages of 18 to 25, although this can differ from one person to another. Some may not even develop all four wisdom teeth, while others may need to get them removed at an earlier age.
When there is not enough space for the teeth to erupt, this can cause pain in the gums and bones as the teeth shift. Sometimes when this happens, the teeth can become “impacted” which means they have grown sideways and are now a fertile place for bacteria and periodontal disease to take hold. Due to this, you may experience discomfort, swelling, pain and even illness!
At ADx Dental, we recommend early removal of impacted wisdom teeth to avoid future problems and to avoid potential costly surgical procedures.
If you’re unsure as to when you should get your wisdom teeth removed, please contact us, and we’ll be more than happy to help you. For your convenience, we offer wisdom teeth treatments and complimentary consultations on Saturdays.

Wisdom Teeth Care And Extraction At Calgary SW Dental Clinic
Usually the last teeth to develop in your mouth, wisdom teeth are often the cause of oral problems because, for many people, there simply isn’t enough room in the mouth to accommodate them. And this lack of space can cause problems when wisdom teeth decide it’s time to emerge into the mouth.
Wisdom teeth are the quartet of molars located at the back of the mouth. Most are removed when patients are 18 – 25 years old, though some can be older or younger than this. Some people don’t even develop all four wisdom teeth in their lifetime.
But when the time comes for wisdom teeth to emerge, they can cause pains in the gum and bones as teeth shift to accommodate them. Teeth can become impacted when wisdom teeth grow sideways and this can often lead to periodontal diseases and all the pain, swelling and illnesses associated with that.
Here at ADx Dental, your Calgary SW dentist, we recommend early removal of wisdom teeth to avoid future complications and expensive surgical procedures. Dr Tran is available at our Calgary dental clinic to assess your wisdom teeth and offer professional dental advice and treatment to limit the impact wisdom teeth have.
To decide if your wisdom tooth or teeth need to be extracted, Dr Tran will examine your teeth and bone tissue using the latest dental technology, including digital X-rays. This allows him to get a close-up look at your wisdom teeth. Should wisdom tooth extraction be recommended, it’s a procedure that can be performed at our Calgary dental care clinic under sedation, so there is no discomfort for you during the wisdom tooth removal.
Whether you are a new or existing ADx Dental patient, please book an appointment today to discuss your wisdom teeth or any other dental matter.
